Vanaf 27 April 2009 is het mogelijk om je te registreren voor het beta examen: “TS: Windows 7, Configuring”, ook wel bekend als 071-680:
You are invited to take beta exam 71-680: TS: Windows 7, Configuring. If you pass the beta exam, the exam credit will be added to your transcript and you will not need to take the exam in its released form. The 71-xxx identifier is used for registering for beta versions of MCP exams, when the exam is released in its final form the 70-xxx identifier is used for registration.
By participating in beta exams, you have the opportunity to provide the Microsoft Certification program with feedback about exam content, which is integral to development of exams in their released version. We depend on the contributions of experienced IT professionals and developers as we continually improve exam content and maintain the value of Microsoft certifications.
71-680: TS: Windows 7, Configuring counts as credit towards the following certification(s).

Dit examen behoord tot de MCTS (Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist) certificering en is gratis voor IT-professionals. Het examen toetst de kennis op het gebied van het installeren, het configureren en het beheren van netwerken en computers met Windows 7. Om je in te schrijven voor dit beta-examen ga je naar de Prometric website en plan je je examen. Bij de laatste stap (Betaling) geef je de promo-code op (WIN7J) waarmee het systeem de prijs van het examen terug brengt naar 0 euro. Na het bevestigen van het examen, kun je beginnen met studeren!

Update 2: Zoals zovelen heb ik vanmorgen om 8:00 uur in proberen te schrijven voor het nieuwe Window 7 Beta examen 071-680. Helaas kwam ook ik er al snel achter dat dit niet meer mogelijk was, dankzij de melding: “The maximum count for the promotion has been exceeded”:

We just increased the available beta slots. Please keep in mind these will go terribly fast and, like every beta exam we’ve ever offered, is still on a first come, first served basis.
Also, I’d like to mention that the whole point of a beta exam, as some have mentioned, is to gather statistics and comments from candidates who take the exam rather than providing a chance to certify for free. In exchange for your help in giving us statistics we need, we offer a free exam in the way of thanks. Having qualified and novice candidates are both helpful in this process.

Uiteraard kwam ik hier zelf te laat achter (23:00 uur) en kreeg ik voor de tweede keer die dag de melding te zien dat “The maximum count for the promotion has been exceeded”. Grrr …
